About me

I am an educator, musician, and dancer. I am interested in uniting my passions -music, dance, and education- and that is why I have been deepening my professional development in music and movement pedagogies, specializing in the Dalcroze and Orff - Schulwerk approaches.

In my experience, the relationship between dance and music cannot be understood without each other. I believe in an embodied way to teach, learn and experience the arts.

I love teaching children as well as adults. Recently, I have been training teachers and future music educators.

I understand that the best way to learn is to teach, and I find great joy and reward in teaching kids because I am inspired by how much I learn from them every day. I am fascinated by the way children see the world, with that curiosity, living in the present - finding beauty in the smallest things.

Biography

I was born and raised in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona). From a young age, I felt the need to explore the world and I began to travel and, later, live abroad. I first lived in Copenhagen, Denmark; and there was where my love for the Nordic countries began; and then I decided to go to study and finish my studies in Music Education at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (Finland). I currently live and work as a freelance teacher in this city.

That is why I feel like a citizen of the world. Still, since living abroad, I have felt deeply connected to my Catalan, Spanish and Latin American roots. Part of my family is from Catalonia, part of my father's family is from southern Spain (Córdoba, Andalusia) and part of my mother's family is from Puerto Rico (in Latin America).

Music, Dance and Pedagogy Education

I have been trained in music and dance since a young age. I started flamenco dance when I was 3 and continued to be trained in different dance disciplines (Spanish dance, jazz, ballet, escuela bolera...) throughout my adolescence. Later, I studied at the Professional Dance Conservatory of l'Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, in the Spanish dance department.

I started music and piano lessons with a private teacher, and later, I applied to the Music School and Conservatory of my hometown (Vilanova i la Geltrú) where I completed the Elemental studies and the six years of Professional Studies with classical piano as my speciality.

Even though my first area of study at University was Medicine, I decided to follow my passions (music, dance and education) and changed my studies to Primary School Teaching specializing in Music at the University of Barcelona. Simultaneously, I completed my professional studies in Music (classical piano) at the Music Conservatory of Vilanova i la Geltrú. After those studies, and while working already as an English primary school teacher, I did a two-year specialization training in Dalcroze pedagogy with Eugènia Arús (Conservatori de Bellaterra, Barcelona).

I decided to deepen my music and music pedagogical studies and study the degree in Music (Music Education) specializing in piano pedagogy at l’Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), studies that I completed at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. There, I deepened in music and movement taking all the music and movement courses that were offered and I became familiar, for the first time, with the Orff-Schulwerk approach, by the hand of Elisa Seppänen. Elisa had a big influence on my path and desire of developing myself as a music and movement teacher. I have been furthering my education in this pedagogy participating in various international Orff-Schulwerk courses over the past several years. Among other courses, I completed two Level I training courses in Orff-Schulwerk pedagogy in Finland and in San Francisco (California) in summer 2022, and I attended the Level II in San Francisco this summer 2023.

During the school year 2018-2019, I studied the postgraduate diploma of Teaching Spanish as a Foreign language at the Rovira i Virgili University (Tarragona).

In 2020, I was selected to participate as a mentee in the "New European Mentorship Programme of Orff-Schulwerk pedagogy" where I deepened in teachers' training in the Orff-Schulwerk approach. My mentors were Christa Coogan, Soili Perkiö and Elisa Seppänen.

I have also been involved with the Orff-Schulwerk association in Finland (JaSeSoi) and with the recently created Orff Catalunya association, being a member of the board since its foundation in 2020 until summer 2023.

Since 2019, I have been working as a teacher in Finland, first as a kindergarten teacher and later as a primary school teacher at the International School of Vantaa and at the primary school in Kulosaari (Kulosaaren ala-asteen koulu).

I am currently a freelance educator teaching flamenco dance, piano, music and movement as well as Spanish and English language lessons to children and adults in person in Helsinki and online and sometimes teaching different primary school subjects mainly in Kulosaari primary school (in Helsinki).
